INSPIRING LIVES FOREVER
"Let your light shine"
Matthew 5: 15-16

History

Intent

At Coleshill, our intention is to inspire children to be curious about the past and to develop an understanding of who we are, where we come from and the ideas and events that have shaped us and the world around us. We enable children to know about significant events in British history, and to appreciate how things have changed over time. We develop a sense of chronology and help children see trends and themes that can inform our actions and help us make responsible choices and contributions to society in the future.  We want children to ask and answer questions and begin considering different ways in which the past is represented and be able to talk about their learning using appropriate historical terms and vocabulary relating to the passing of time.

Implementation

In Reception, History is taught within our Early Years Curriculum and at Key Stage 1, both Year 1 and Year 2 study 3 History topics a year.  Please read our History Policy and Progression of Skills for further information:

Impact

Here is what some of our pupils say about why it is important to learn History and what they have enjoyed learning the most:

Quinn "I think history is important because we get to learn about the past"

Harry "If you don’t learn about the past you won’t know about important people"

Oliver "The most fun thing that I found was when we used to the pastels to make a picture of The Great Fire of London"

James "I liked it when we did the Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic picture"

Dougie "I enjoyed writing about the different explorers"

Joshua "When we were learning about Columbus and Armstrong and thinking about what toys, transport homes and clothes were like for them and how they are today, I found it really interesting."

Isak "I liked when we learned about how music has changed because it was cool that the smaller IPODs could fit more songs more on it."

Oliver "I liked it when we did the Morse Code because we got to do the beeping and had to work out what the word was from the beeps"

Luka "I liked it when we looked at how communication has changed because I liked it when we wrote our name in Hieroglyphics"
