WRITING
Intent
At Coleshill, our intention is to foster a love for writing and develop independent and confident young writers. We aim to provide a rich and stimulating learning environment that nurtures creativity and allows children to express themselves through speaking and the written word. Our writing curriculum is designed to build strong foundations in key writing skills, provide children opportunities to write for a variety of purposes and ignite a lifelong enthusiasm for communication, creativity, and self-expression.
Implementation
In Reception, English writing is taught within our Early Years Curriculum and at Key Stage 1, both Year 1 and Year 2 study different writing units across the year. Please read our English Writing Policy and Progression of Skills for further information:
Impact
Here is what some of our pupils say about why it is important to learn English and what they have enjoyed learning the most:
Oliver – I really enjoyed writing about superheroes and making up how they keep their hideout hidden.
Quinn – I enjoyed when we learned about The Owl Who was afraid of the Dark because it reminded me of a show I watched.
Joshua – I enjoyed writing the instructions on how to set up and look after the fish tank.
Joshua – English is important because in the future we will do a lot of writing, we could be an author or have an important job.
Luka – I found it fun when we got to deisgn our on bog baby because i liked drawing them.
Harry – I likd designing bog babies and swapping round out books to share our ideas.
READING
Intent
At Coleshill, we believe that reading is the core skill to everything that children do. It is integral to our school curriculum and is a fundamental life skill that impacts on the acquisition of knowledge. It is our aim for the children to promote a love of reading so that it becomes a pleasurable and meaningful daily activity. As a result, our children develop into fluent, independent and reflective readers who are confident in their comprehension skills and able to talk about books and authors.
Implementation
