Design and Technology
Intent
At Coleshill, our intention is for children to become equipped with the skills needed to design solutions to real life problems. We encourage our children to be ambitious in their design and provide opportunities to practise the skills needed so children are confident when bringing their designs to life. Giving time to critically analyse, evaluate and improve their products are central to our teaching our D.T. curriculum. We strive to support the children in building their resilience and perseverance to overcome failure in a safe and constructive environment.
Implementation
In Reception, Design and Technology taught within our Early Years Curriculum and at Key Stage 1, both Year 1 and Year 2 study three Design and Technology topics a year. Please read our Design and Technology Policy and Progression of Skills for further information:
Impact
Here is what some of our pupils say about why it is important to learn Design and Technology what they have enjoyed learning the most:
James – I liked it when we tried the soups that we made. Also I like it when we made our moving vehicles.
Oliver – I really like DT because when we made the moving vehicles we were making a space explorer!
Jaxon - I liked it when we made the moving picture of the rocket and the earth because you could see it move
Dougie – I like DT because we get to try different soups. My favourite was the leek and the potato.
Freddie – I enjoyed using the big knives and learning how to use them carefully
